GDHS Hosts WSES Student Field Trip

|

The Greene-Dreher Historical Society hosted the third and fourth grade students from Wallenpaupack South Elementary School for a local history field trip at Peggy Bancroft Hall. Students viewed artifacts and photos of mid-century Newfoundland businesses, like the soda fountain at the drugstore, the theater, and even the bowling alley. Students saw and learned about items from Greene and Dreher Townships used in the home, on the farm, and in school from the 19th through the 20th century. Four educational stations had been set up in the buildings and on the grounds.  As the children moved through the stations, docents shared their knowledge of the artifacts in our collection. The field trip was a brisk-paced and fun walk through local history.

The Society would like to thank Principal Mark Kirsten and the teachers of WSES: Mrs. Bigart, Mrs. Politowski, Mrs. Rickard, and Mrs. Spitzer for giving us this opportunity to showcase our museum buildings. We send a well-done and hearty thanks to our volunteer docents for the visit: Wayne Garafolo, Barry Moore, Nancy Simon, and Suzanne Urton. As always, board members were present and ready to inform and educate. The society hopes that this becomes a regular part of our schedule of events.
