Susan Akers Reichman recently published Around Home Poems, a collection of poetry centered on her neighborhood in South Sterling. Many of her poems evoke the countryside around the home where she and her husband, Paul, raised their two sons and have lived for 48 years—the farms and pastures outlined with stone walls, the wandering pathways through the trees, the changing seasons. Other poems tell about the everyday comings and goings of her South Sterling neighborhood, many with photographs taken by the author. Susan writes about people and places close to her heart as a way of safe-keeping family memories for her children and grandchildren.
A Greentown native, Susan began writing poetry as a young girl. Her first book, Pleasant View Memories, was published in 2004. Around Home Poems, describing as it does the people and places of South Sterling and Greentown, will be a welcome addition to the Historical Society’s book and reference collection.
