Hop onboard for a fun-filled day of history, heritage and culture as we host a guided tour of Scranton’s iconic sites. Greene-Dreher Historical Society will host a bus tour of seven historical sites in the Electric City on Thursday, October 17. Scranton is filled with historical significance that includes being where the first electric lights were introduced in 1880 and where the first electric-powered streetcars began operating in the United States. We’ll go behind the scenes at several locations to learn their back story. The tour includes a boxed lunch at the Caitlin House, the home of Lackawanna Historical Society. Other sites on the tour are listed below:
- Scranton Cultural Center
- Trolley Museum and Trolley Ride to PNC Stadium
- Everhart Museum
- Nay Aug Park, including recently opened Brook Coal Mine
- Steamtown National Historic Site
The cost for the tour is $50 per person, which includes snacks, a boxed lunch, and all entrance fees. The bus will depart from Dutch’s Market Parking Lot in Greentown at 7:45 am and return at 5:00 pm on Thursday October 17.
