Presented by Jack Hamblin, Jack Hamblin Auctions
Whether it’s early American furniture, silver flatware, sets of fine China, or 19th century toys, there comes a time when many of us think about downsizing our possessions. Jack Hamblin, with over 40 years of local auction expertise, can help answer the questions “What is it worth?” and “How can I sell it?” Understanding an item’s quality, condition, history, and desirability all help determine its value. Online auctions have broadened the audience for sales, and 90 percent of what Jack Hamblin acquires today is sold through online auctions. As both an on-site and online auctioneer who focuses on local estates and collections, Jack knows the importance of changing tastes and market trends in determining value.
Born in Monroe County, Jack Hamblin comes from a long line of teachers, innkeepers and craftsmen, ancestors who have called the area home for over 150 years. His bachelor’s and master’s degrees in European History have helped propel this former teacher, coach, and sports official to become one of the area’s most trusted auctioneers. Active in local township historical societies, founder and director of the Pocono Mountain Community Chorus and member of many church and civic organizations, Jack loves helping people discover the value of their possessions.
This program is hosted by the Greene-Dreher Historical Society at Peggy Bancroft Hall and Museum in South Sterling. It is free and open to the public, and light refreshments will follow the presentation.
