The Historical Society is hosting a bus trip on Tuesday, June 24, to two historic sites in New York’s Hudson River Valley: the U.S. Military Academy at West Point, and The Culinary Institute of America. Details of the trip, including cost, will be announced here at a later date.
The United States Military Academy in West Point was founded in 1802 by President Thomas Jefferson to train officers for the rapidly expanding army. Throughout its history, West point has adapting to the changing needs of the nation’s defense while upholding its mission to educate, train, and inspire cadets to become leaders of character, prepared to serve their country with honor and distinction. Since 1843, the West Point Museum has collected, preserved, exhibited, and interpreted historically significant artifacts related to the Military Academy and the U.S. Army. The museum features more than 60,000 Army historical artifacts that inspire and educate visitors, as well as the cadets, the military, and civilian personnel. The holdings of the museum are displayed not only at Pershing Center, but throughout the Military Academy’s buildings and grounds.
The Culinary Institute of America in Hyde Park is a private college and culinary school founded in 1946 for returning veterans of World War II. It operates four public restaurants, including the American Bounty Restaurant, where the group will enjoy lunch. The farm-to-table restaurant features regional and seasonal products and celebrates American cuisine.
Participants will depart Dutch’s Market Parking Lot in Greentown at 8:00 am and return at 6:30 pm. The cost per person is $137.00 for members of the Greene-Dreher Historical Society and $147.00 for all others. The cost includes lunch, gratuities, and entrance fees.
