Known as the “Minstrel of the Mountains,” Dave Matsinko brings together a love of music and an interest in history by performing traditional folk and Americana music. He interprets music from old-time folk ballads and Appalachian traditions on modern instruments, including guitar, banjo, mandolin and the mountain dulcimer. His fine vocals and lively instrumentation bring great joy to modern ears.
Dave was musically influenced by his grandfather, parents and brother, who all played musical instruments and sang. His brother is a music professor at Gettysburg College. Dave is self-taught on guitar, banjo, dulcimer and mandolin, and these beautiful instruments will be on display during his talk and performance. Dave also plays trumpet and played in an 18-piece Big Band for over 30 years. To say music runs deep in his veins is an understatement. Since Dave retired from teaching in 2012, he has been sharing his musical talents by playing at various venues throughout northeast Pennsylvania, and also by conducting private lessons. He has produced two CDs featuring his music.
Light refreshments will follow the program, which is free and open to the public. Hosted by the Greene-Dreher Historical Society, the program is being sponsored by our Business Partner, Dirlam Bros. Lumber Co.
