D.J. Roberts will present the history of the creation of Lake Wallenpaupack and share little-known facts and accounts about its construction between 1924 and 1926. Originally built for hydroelectric power, the lake is one of Pennsylvania’s largest reservoirs and is an economic force providing construction, hospitality, and tourism employment to both Wayne and Pike Counties. D.J. will display historical photographs and original maps showing property lines and land ownership.
D.J. Roberts owns Lakeside Electric Service in Hawley and has served on the Board of Directors of Lacawac Sanctuary. Light refreshments will be provided following his talk.
This is the second in a series of six Local History Seminars held on Tuesday evenings at Peggy Bancroft Hall, the Historical Society’s meeting place and museum in South Sterling.
