Local History Day for WSES Students

|

Fourth grade students at Wallenpaupack South Elementary participated in Local History Day at the Greene-Dreher Historical Society in June. The annual event gives students an opportunity to experience some of the daily and weekly chores of farm life in the 1800s, including spinning wool, cutting firewood, churning cream to make butter, carrying buckets using a neck yoke, dating trees, and tracing the steps in harvesting and storing ice in pre-electricity days. GDHS volunteers assisted the children with each of these activities. In addition each child received a booklet on the settlement of Newfoundland which included word games, crossword puzzles and a family history activity.
